You must check out SCO's slides showing the alleged copied code from SysV to Linux and Bruce Perens's response.

It is amazing the level of idiocy involved in every aspect of this.

One of these days, they're going to get into an actual courtroom. That will be the final put-up-or-shut-up phase. Presumably, IBM has subpoenaed all of SCO's purported evidence, and they're probably in the process of tracking down the original sources of those programs. Just imagine how much fun it will be when IBM puts Ken Thompson up as one of its expert witnesses.

I know Brian K., and honestly, I think he'll let you slide on that.

This code isn't that parts that SCO are trying to sue IBM about. SCO say that IBM have broken their UNIX source contract by adding SMP, RCU and NUMA from the Sequent code into Linux. They say that IBM have no right to do that as some obscure clause in an addendum gives SCO some rights over it.

The code in the slides however was committed by somebody at SGI and isn't anything to do with IBM from what I gather.

IANAL so could be wrong

Reminds me of the USENIX conference, where Dennis was wearing the T-shirt with the "/* You are not expected to understand this */" code snippet from V6. A young student guy joined us, and proceeded to explain what the code actually did. And Dennis couldn't help responding with a very dry "yes, I know. I wrote it."
